Developing Young Workforce

MONTROSE ACADEMY

This service helps young people develop their career management skills, and make good decisions for their future.

Skills Development Scotland is the national career service, and they have careers advisers in every state secondary school in Scotland.

You will speak to your school careers adviser Franni Boviz at points throughout the school year and will also be supported by them at key times such as starting S1, choosing subjects, and preparing for moving on from school. She can help with applications for jobs or college, CVs and interview preparation as well. This will be delivered through drop-ins, one-to-one appointments, and group learning sessions.

There is lots of useful career information and advice available at any time through Scotland’s careers website My World of Work. Here you can access things like hundreds of job profiles,  our Option Choices tool, learn about CVs and applications and use our School Leavers Toolkit. You can also find out more about apprenticeships and apply for vacancies on Apprenticeships.scot.

If you would like to make an appointment with Franni, you can do this in person in the careers room, or through your PCS teacher. You can also email her here.

She’s available for appointments or drop-in questions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at the Careers room located across from the library.

Beyond school, SDS careers advisers are also available at community venues across Angus like the MOHUB or the SDS Arbroath careers centre and over the SDS freephone helpline on 0800 917 8000 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

There is also a dedicated area for parents and carers with information to help you have career conversations at home.
