Montrose Academy expects all pupils to have good attendance at school. Pupils who regularly attend school and are on time are more likely to fulfil their potential. Regularly being late to class or missing classes can lead to gaps in knowledge and affect a pupil’s progress and attainment.
Please read guidance from our updated Attendance Policy with changes that come into effect on Monday 14th September:
There are no formal examinations for courses at National 2, 3 and 4. These courses are assessed internally by teaching staff with marking subject to external moderation by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Almost all National 5 courses have an external examination. Higher and Advanced Higher courses in all subjects also have external examinations.
Young people in S4, S5 or S6 sitting external examinations will have a period of exam leave from Thursday 30 April to Tuesday 19 May inclusive. Young people will also be excused attending school the day before any examination which falls out with that period. This will give young people additional time to revise and prepare for their exams.
Any young person who wishes to attend school during the period of study leave is entitled to do so. School staff will be available to answer questions and provide support.
Pupils with no external examinations are expected to continue attending school and will be able to access a variety of learning experiences.
I hope this letter clarifies arrangements for the exam leave that will operate in Angus secondary schools this session. If you have any specific questions about exam leave arrangements, please contact the school in the first instance.
This is the first of these new termly events to give parents the opportunity to meet informally and discuss with other parents and staff about what we can do together to benefit our young people. Each meeting will have a different theme – agreed by parents. The theme of the first meeting is Communication. You will agree the next themes at this meeting too. Your child will receive a letter tomorrow at Check- In with a tear off slip if you are able to attend. If you prefer call the school office on 907500 to book your place.
The School Leadership Team will collate information/ideas and share it with all parents. Refreshments will be available and staff will be on hand to support. We very much look forward to seeing you at this event.
Documents for pupils and parents/carers which will help guide you through the process as well as give you additional information about the courses offered at Montrose Academy, are now available. These can be found in the PUPILS section of this website, headed Course Choice.
