Head Teacher Message

Mr M. Smart, Montrose Academy's new Head Teacher, discusses the school “Vision”; supporting young people and preparing them for the future and the change of the weekly timetable to a 33 period week.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Montrose Academy has a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Extra-curricular sports and activities promote healthy habits for life and enhance the ethos of the school through clubs and teams

Pastoral Support

All pupils at Montrose Academy are members of one House.  Each House is led by a Depute Head Teacher with a Principal Teacher Pupil Care & Support who is responsible for a caseload of approximately 210 pupils from S1 to S6.  PT PC&S are the point of contact for both pupils and parents to share information.  We also have an overview of our pupils attendance, behaviour, attainment, personal and social development.  The key role of PT PC&S is to provide pastoral support; to know the pupils well and to promote self confidence and self-esteem in a wide range of activities.  We provide curricular and vocational support, personal and social education and monitor and evaluate pupil’ progress.

PT PC&S work closely with the Additional Support Needs Department as well as the various curricular areas to provide holistic support for our pupils.  We also work directly with large number of outside agencies in order to provide support to pupils both in school and in their wider lives.

Our PT PC&S teach their caseloads in year groups for PSE (Personal & Social Education) classes for one period per week.  The broad range of topics endeavours to provide the young people with appropriate skills for lifelong learning and work.

Topics include …

  • Being an effective learner
  • Citizenship & inclusion
  • Planning for choices & chances
  • Relationships & sexual health
  • Mental, emotional, social and physical well-being.
  • Substance misuse
