Coping with Senior Phase Evening
We held a very successful evening with around 40 of our parents/carers of pupils in S4-S6 attending last Thursday.  The focus of the evening was to communicate strategies for best supporting young people as they progress through S4-S6.  If you were unable to attend then please have a look at the Power Point attached.  If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact the school.

S4-S6 Study Leave Arrangements

By | Parent Letter, Pupils, School news | No Comments

Dear Parent/Carer

I am writing with information about study leave arrangements for our S4, S5 and S6 pupils.

This school session sees the third year of the National Qualifications with the new Advanced Higher Courses being completed for the first time.

As you will be aware, there are now no formal examinations for courses at National 2, 3 and 4.  These courses are assessed internally by teaching staff and then the marking is subject to external moderation by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).  Some courses at National 5 (i.e. Administration, Hospitality, PE and Practical Craft Skills) also have no formal external examination.

After detailed discussions with all Secondary Head Teachers in Angus, it has been agreed that S4 pupils who have two or more external examinations will be excused attending school the day before any examination to allow for final preparations (except where the examination falls on a Monday) and the day of the examination itself.

As is usual practice, school staff will continue to be available to any pupil on study leave to answer questions.  School buildings can also be accessed to provide study areas.

S4 pupils with no external examinations are expected to continue attending school where a range of learning opportunities will be in place.

For pupils in S5 and S6, the study leave arrangements for pupils will include a period of study leave from Monday 9 May to Friday 20 May 2016. Thereafter, those pupils in S5 with examinations outside this period will have the day before and the day of the examination given over as study leave.

We will continue to keep study leave arrangements under review. If you have any specific questions about study leave arrangements, please contact the school in the first instance.

Yours sincerely

Dr John Cavanagh
