A team of athletes from Montrose Academy were competing at County sports at Arbroath HS recently with some really great performances on display. In the 800m, Orla McLeod (S3) stormed home to take a convincing gold. Bethany Hall (senior) was next on the podium bringing back a bronze. In the senior boys, Alasdair Campbell ran a neck and neck race and pipped the athlete from Carnoustie HS to take an outstanding gold. Next to take to the track were the 100m competitors. Bella Pirie (S1) started us off with a bronze medal, followed by Alicia Smith (S2) also bringing home a bronze. Stewart Simpson (S2) ran an excellent race, claiming gold!
Over on the field, it was the turn of the Gunn siblings to bring home the medals. Emma (senior) brought us a silver for javelin, and Kyle (S1) a gold for discus.
Back on the track, Melissa Coull (S3) claimed a silver in the 300m and Logan Stewart (S3) a gold in the 400m. At the same time Ethan Harrison (S3) won bronze in the javelin.
Two bronze medals were won in the 200m, from Alicia Smith (S2) and Logan Stewart. Sophie Hare (S2) also picked up a bronze in the javelin.
Back to the middle distance events. Orla McLeod and Finlay Wallace (S3) both won convincing 1500m races. Another battle took place for Alasdair in this event, this time he took the silver medal. Success on the field included a silver medal for Naomi Duncan (S2) in the shot putt and Lewis Smith (S3) took gold in the triple jump. Bella Pirie claimed another medal, this time a silver for discus. Niamh Eaton (S2) also won a bronze for discus and Ola Stromska (senior) a bronze for shot putt.
Our final medal of the competition came from the S2 Girls relay team (Alicia Smith, Hannah Dey, Jenna Henderson & Emilia Jarosz) who won silver.
