Rotary Club Photography Competition

Congratulations go to Christos Ntailakis who is this year’s winner of the Rotary Club Photography Competition.  Second place went to Emma Gunn, with Ciara Robertson coming third.

The Rotary Club & Montrose Academy photography competition was based on the title ‘The Beauty of Nature’ and this year’s Higher Photography pupils were given the opportunity to put forward their best photos which illustrated the title.   This is the first year of the competition and it is hoped that it will now become an annual event on the school calendar.

Christos is pictured with his winning entry of an autumn leaf, alongside runner-up Emma and judges Mr Neil Werninck from Montrose Rotary Club and Mr Peter Allan, Principle Teacher of Performing Arts.

Winning photos are displayed below:

Montrose Academy History Department ran another very successful trip to the World War One Battlefields of Belgium and France in October.

On day one the 28 pupils and 3 members of staff visited Messines and its church, the Pool of Peace, Sanctuary Wood and the Hooge Crater Museum.

Day 2 was spent in France at Newfoundland Memorial Park, Thiepval Memorial, Dartmoor Cemetery and Vimy Ridge.

Day 3 was back in Belgium at the Essex Farm Cemetery, Poelkapelle, Passchaendale, Tyne Cot, Langemark, the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate and the pupils performed their own ceremony at the Blackwatch Corner Memorial.

A very busy, informative and emotional few days were enjoyed by all the pupils and staff thanks to Mercat Tours International Ltd.

The next history trip, this time to Krakow, will take place in 2019 from October 3rd- 6th.  See Mrs Manley or Mr Donald for more information.

Modern Languages

By | School news | No Comments

Modern Languages pupils will be following ERASMUS student Roisin (from Edinburgh University) as she goes on her year abroad to Switzerland and Spain. Roisin will be keeping in touch with us from abroad, documenting her time there by sending us videos and pictures. This will give Montrose Academy pupils a taste for what it is like to live abroad and use our language skills in the world of work. Some S3 pupils will meet Roisin on Wednesday 29th August. If you have any questions about ERASMUS/are interested in following Roisin’s journey, see Mrs Caira.
